Benchmarking: An Interactive Tool for Vectorization of Raster Images

Methods have been presented to compute the vector representations of the arbitrary lines in a bilevel raster image. The image may have varying line width and irregular boundaries. Moreover, at line crossings and branches, the user has an opportunity to choose the direction in which line tracking may be continued. The usual method involves thresholding, thinning, segmentation, polygonalization, and vectorization of chain codes. Instead, a line-tracking tool is designed using manual and parametric approach; whose results are stored using Drawing Interchange File (DXF) formats. This leads to an efficient benchmarking tool and algorithm, in particular when individual lines have to be interactively extracted from a raster image.
